"Go,
therefore, and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son,
and the Holy Spirit. And teaching them to obey
all that I've commanded you." ~Matthew 28:19-20

The word most
often used when one discusses growing
Christians is DISCIPLESHIP. Based on
the final command given by Jesus Christ
before He returned to heaven, the
whole of life is wrapped up in the word
discipleship. Taking the normal life
of children, for example, we might say one
cannot grow until one is born, and the
purpose of growth is to become a mature
adult. The Christian life is the same.
We must be born spiritually, then we grow to
maturity. As a mature Christian, then,
our life will be characterized by service
and love.
The Gathering of Men believes that
growth comes in the following ways:
|
|
Small
groups
provide an ideal setting to help a
person grow in Christ. In small groups
there is instruction about the word of
God. People can receive information and
the application of that information.
Small groups also provide a safe place
to question and work through doubts and
unclear thinking. They provide a source
of companionship and accountability
among men in similar life situations. It
is a place of encouragement and
stimulation through the deep
relationships formed in those groups.
Leaders for small groups are trained and
meet on a monthly basis to continue in
their own growth and skills as small
group leaders. |

The
Gathering helps men grow in
one-on-one
and
training situations. The
difference between these and small
groups is that accountability is higher
due to the more directed and intimate
leadership. These groups are generally
limited to about one year in length with
a specific agenda for the training.
|
|
|
|
Growth
is also achieved in specific
seminars,
luncheons, and special programs.
We plan such events throughout the year
recognizing that a specific lesson may
be just what someone needs at that
moment in their life. |
|
|
Another means of growth is the
practice of principles learned in
seminars and small groups through service.
The Gathering offers
ministry
opportunities
to
serve through sister organizations like
The Get Together and Hunter’s Harvest.
We partner with many ministries in the
inner city and encourage men to get
involved in those ministries. |
